Friday Event Highlights

June 24, 2011 8:00 am

It’s day five of A Good Week, and so far we’ve had a Good Meal, Good Fashion Tips and enough Good Thoughts to keep us going for a least a few weeks.

Today is all about having A Good Day at Work. We know it’s not usually something that people think about on a Friday but we think it’s a nice start to the weekend. Our partners for today are Business in the Community – they have over 16,000 employees both in the UK and around the world out volunteering within those communities most in need.

We got involved because Give & Gain inspires new people to volunteer in work time and employees love it. A survey of individuals who took part last year showed that:

— 87% had an improved perception of their employer
— 87% felt more pride in their employer
— 82% felt more committed to their employer

Based on those stats we can’t help but think today will be A Good Day at Work for everyone taking part.

Virgin Media are also taking part in A Good Day at Work by setting up a Friday Marketplace for Virgin Media Pioneers to sell their wares. Virgin Media employees based at Longacre are in for a real treat.

Not to be outdone, Good Energy have backed their team to take part in a bike ride fundraiser for The DoNation. I hope the weather is on their side. We’ll bring you a more detailed update on the Virgin Media Pioneer Marketplace and the Good Energy bike ride next week.

If you’re at your desk and need a little something to brighten your day then we recommend taking part in Spark+Mettle’s Coffee-Break class at 11am. Today’s class is How to Bollywood dance in your kitchen with Charlotte Jalley, founder of Learn Bollywood. If you don’t have a kitchen close by then ask colleagues if they mind you getting down in the aisle or hallway…hopefully they won’t mind, they might even join in.

Do A Good Act and Get Involved Online!
And again, if you can’t attend any of the above events, take a moment today to do something Good for yourself or someone else, and share it with us by clicking on the Good-O-Meter. Your Good Act will be registered on our Facebook page! You can also join us on Twitter @AGoodWeek or use the hashtag #AGoodWeek to share what Good means to you.

If you’re still wondering what you can do to celebrate A Good Week, download our Toolkit here [PDF] for some ideas!

Have a refreshingly Good Friday!
